The Focal Point - How to achieve it

A little back story-
When we first walked through our rental we found there is not only the primary suite door right off the living area but there is also an added random closet on the next wall- no fireplace, no window, just two random walls with doors inconveniently placed.
My biggest concern is not just where should the TV go (it really went downstairs, but TV's are a great focal point as everything tends to circle around & point to them!) but where should our attention be when in that room?
My goal: create a focal point & make it INTENTIONAL.
Here’s what I had to work with:

Now, before you ask "well if this is a rental then why'd you choose it?" because LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION.
See, in our last house we had a vaulted ceiling with a fireplace perfectly centered in the room. That, was so beautiful, so satisfying, and was instantly the visual interest in the room & for every holiday!

Isn't this just so pretty? I sincerely loved that house. But, since I couldn't have this in my rental, I made-do.
Since I couldn't move the primary suite door (I have a theory how it wasn't suppose to go there but that's a story for another time!) I opted to hide the closet.
I covered the door with a pair of tall, white bookshelves and accented it with a charming, rich wood, writing desk & a coordinating tall mirror.

You can totally see the closet door behind the shelf! Before we move on- YES I covered a door! But no- it has not lost functionality at all. In fact, the shelves have foam stickers on the feet so they slide easily & it is a closet space we hide the things we don't want the kids to know about. And, they've never looked even though this is now the focal point of the room!
In every room, focal points are so important! The eyes need somewhere to be directed to or else the entire room just feels overwhelming and a bit cluttered, even if it's not.
Do you see how the room now has direction?
Here are my top 6 tips on how to create focal points in each of your spaces:
1. Use Artwork
Large pieces of artwork or a gallery wall can serve as a stunning focal point. Choose a piece that resonates with the room's theme and colors. Our favorite feature that our tv does is doubles as a piece of artwork AND entertainment!
2. Statement Furniture
A bold piece of furniture, such as a brightly colored sofa or an intricately designed chair, or a desk can become the focal point. Position it strategically to draw attention.
3. Architectural Features
Highlight existing architectural elements like a fireplace, large windows, or built-in shelving. Accentuate these features with appropriate lighting, heights of items, and decor.
4. Accent Walls
Paint one wall a different color or use wallpaper to create an accent wall. This visually separates it from the rest of the room and immediately establishes it as a focal point.
5. Lighting Fixtures
Unique lighting fixtures, such as chandeliers, pendant lights or even sconces can serve as a focal point. Choose designs that complement the room's style while making a statement.
6. Rugs and Textiles
A bold area rug can define a space and serve as a focal point, especially in open floor plans. Layering textiles can also add depth and interest.
What do you do to create a focal point in your rooms?? And would YOU have hidden the door???Let me know in the comments!
